From
the Rider's Seat
By Roy Hooper
We had a another good year in 2006 and now it's time to welcome 2007.
Our Club
started in January 2004 and our new web site had 3500 visits that year.
We end 2006 with 15,000 hits for an average of 5,000/year.
STATS
We just signed up member #114 at the end of the year and we have 68
registered members. Of those 68, 33 of you ride with us on a
regular basis.
The other 35 either own dirt bikes or just haven't been able
to
ride with us. While we have quite a few female passengers,
we have 6 girls who ride their own bike and it's really great that
women are enjoying this hobby with us. Lou is our furthest
member, coming from the LAX area. We ride Honda, Yamaha, Harley Davidson, Kawasaki, Aprilia, and Suzuki.
So how did YOU find our
Club?
Please take 5 minutes and share with us how you found us. Email me at .
GIRL
MEMBERS
2 of our female members have recently gotten new bikes. Kelly
of
Saugus just purchased a 2003 Honda Shadow ACE VT750 and France from
Santa Barbara just acquired a 2007 Yamaha FJR. Both of them
can't
wait to ride with us in 2007.
France sent me this
site from Road Star Clinic that shows how to pick up a fallen
motorcycle by yourself. You can also see the google
site for some more help. It's best to read about
this before it happens so you'll be prepared. Thanks France.
FREE
LUNCH.
For our Members, here is
your chance to win a FREE lunch on any Club ride
you attend by being the first with the correct answer
to this question that was sent in by Jeff Johnson-
What does the
Yamaha logo represent?

If you think you know the answer leave it on my home phone and I will
post your name here- 646-2905.
Jeff Roe and Jeff Johnson were previous winners, now here's your chance.
UPDATE- John Duffant
was the first person to call with the correct answer. Also
calling in within an hour were John Muller and Robert Bruce.
Please try again in the next issue.
The logo represents 3 tuning forks, each one with its own purpose. Click here to see all the details on the logo.
NEW
COMPUTERS
If you got a new computer for Christmas you might need some help to set
it up. On our menu page
in the left column near the bottom there is a section called
COMPUTER TIPS which I designed to help you get your PC ready
to
use on the internet easily. If you have any tips to add
please
send them to me.
YOUR
OWN E-ADDRESS
And if you want your own personal e-address like John@JohnDoe.com check
out Doteasy.com,
they have the BEST price of $25/year with $0 Hosting, which means you
also get your own 100MB web site! This is the same place
where
our Club site is hosted. Just click on Doteasy.com
to get started.
HOLIDAY
PARTY
Right after the Ventura County 7th Annual Toy Run in December we had
our Holiday Party at the home of Jerry and Mieko
Purdy. This was free to our
Members to show our appreciation for your support on our rides and to
meet our Members who are not able to make our rides. We had a
gift exchange with a max of $10 and there were some cool gifts.
Even though 22 Members showed up 11 other regulars didn't make it and
they were missed. Cal Coast Motorsports owners Craig and Tracy Adams spent the day with us as well.
Mieko made some delicious meat lasagna and vegetarian lasagna and Jerry
had a variety of drinks for us. The Club presented Mieko with
a
$40 Trader Joes gift card for her cooking at this party and the 2004
party and we gave Jerry a Club clock.
Plus the weather was perfect for an outdoor party.
Thanks again to Jerry and Mieko.
LEFT TURNS
In many of our issues I mention looking out for vehicles making
left turns in front of us since it's the number 1 cause of MC
accidents. Well, as I write this on Dec. 28 around 6 pm, KEYT is
reporting that a rider and his passenger were killed
on 192 as a box truck made a left turn in front of them. The
driver will get off easy because he "didn't see the motorcycle
approaching" and was not negligent. So as a reminder- if you see
a vehicle that looks like he is waiting to make a turn or a u-turn,
REDUCE your speed so you have more time to react and think of where you
can go if this vehicle pulls in front of you. Tap your horn 2 or
3 times so he KNOWS that you are there. This is your life so do
what you have to do.

Nov.
and Dec. Rides
By Roy Hooper
Harley's
Rock Inn/Love Ride
This Club ride was a good example
of
outside forces interfering with our plans! Rick Bell led the
group from Ventura to Castaic and I led a group of 10 anxious riders
from Camarillo to Glendale Harley for the start of the Love Ride.
Rick phoned at about 9 and said the winds were blowing in
Castaic
and Jeff Rotter let us know that there was a car accident between
Castaic and Harley's Rock Inn. On my end the Love Ride
delayed
its start by 1 hour. That's a long time.
Once our 2 groups finally met at the Castaic Shell it was decided that
we would avoid the car accident delay and the wind and just head back
to Fillmore and have lunch at the new El Pascabor. Everyone
enjoyed the food and the service and Jeff Roe had a FREE lunch since he
answered our FREE LUNCH question in our newsletter 2 months ago.
This was also our first Club ride with our 2 way radios and they
worked our well. Next year we will do Harley's Rock Inn and
forgo the Love Ride trek.
