From the Rider’s Seat
By Roy Hooper
The 2008 Ride Calendar is completed and I want to thank Germaine and Carla
for their input. Our rides are designed for touring, cruiser and
sport bikes so visit our site and see which rides you want to go
on.
Our new Safety Award Program is in effect and at our Holiday Party in
Dec. we gave out our first awards. If a Member buys any type of
safety article (jacket, helmet, gloves, etc.) they will get a Cal Coast
Motorsports gift card for 10% of the purchase up to $50. For
example, Robert Bruce bought a MC jacket with armor for $220 so he received a $20 gift card and Germaine Rotter just completed the $200 Basic Riders Course so she also received a $20 gift card. Add that to the 15% discount that the
Cal Coast Riders Members get, you can
save quite a bit on your purchases at
Cal Coast Motorsports.
Winter is here and so is the COLD temperature. If you are looking
at heated liners I strongly suggest the new Tourmaster gear. The
liner (not vest) is only $179 and it comes with all the wiring
including the heat troller which the competition sells for an extra
$70. Cal Coast Motorsports does not sell heating gear so I bought
mine at Ventura BMW. Since I’ve purchased heated gear I
actually look forward to riding in cold weather! CCR |
Ride Summary
By Roy Hooper
Our November ride to the Leona Valley was postponed due to weather and
has been rescheduled for January 13. After we leave Carl’s
Jr. on Victoria at 9am we will have a pick up at the Fillmore Burger
King 9:30.
We will explore the many canyon roads that are waiting for us between Valencia and Palmdale.
Our December ride started with the Ventura County Toy Run and ended at
the Rotter’s home in Ventura for our Holiday Party. Jeff and Germaine
worked very hard on setting up this party and they did an excellent
job! So the day started with us giving toys to the kids and
finished with 30 hungry Cal Coast Riders getting fed and playing
pinball.
These are the Members that were able to attend our Holiday Party-
Sheila and Paul, Tracy,
Rick Bell, Jeff Roe, Jeff Lardner, Larry Meyers and son, Joe and
Mariam, Steve Fritz, Lou Vanderveen, Richard Sweet, Eric Grabowski,
George and Linda Conahey, Angelo and his wife, John Muller, Robert and
Susan Bruce and
Jeff and Germaine Rotter and
her Mother. CCR

to win again. This issue’s question is-Where and when was America’s
biggest nuclear accident? The first Member to email me at

will get a free lunch on the next Club ride they
attend.
UDPATE-
Lots of people responded with "3 Mile Island" but the
correct answer is Rocketdyne in Simi Valley which had a major accident
in 1959. See video.
SAFETY TIP
If you park your bike on a downslope and leave it in neutral your bike
could creep forward slowly and fall off its kickstand. Here is a
safe way to park your motorcycle on a down hill grade:
Leave your bike in first gear, cut off the engine, release the clutch,
slowly let your bike roll forward until the transmission stops the bike
from rolling. Now it is safe to put down your kickstand and park
your bike.
