May Ride
Jalama Beach
By Jeff Roe

The club ride to Jalama Beach was as great as expected.  9 of us were at Carl's ready to go.  I was happy to learn that most had never been to Jalama Beach before, so I was glad to give them this experience.  We picked up one more, Bill Muneio, in Santa Barbara.

Everyone was in good spirits.  The overcast was burning off as we made our way up through San Marcos pass.  In Solvang, main street was closed and we followed the traffic through some detours and soon was in bumper to bumper grid lock.  I was unfamiliar with the area and had no idea of an alternate route.  However, Bill Muneio was right beside me and I asked if he knew a way out of here.  Without hesitation, he led our group around some side streets and before long we were clipping along some of the most beautiful and lush scenery that area has to offer.  It amazes me how one person can have such a positive impact on an entire group.  If it wasn't for Bill we would of spent so much unnecessary time stuck in traffic.  Thanks Bill.

At our first fuel stop in Buelton, the sun was finally warming things up and layers began to come off.  Along Santa Rosa Road heading towards hwy 1, throttles opened up a bit and I was confident and happy that everyone was having a good time.  We met back up at Hwy 1 and continued the same formation as we turned onto Jalama Beach Road.

For those who've never been, Jalama Beach Road is a scenic and remote road with rolling hills, big oak trees, wild flowers, and plenty of curves.  After 14 miles it suddenly gives way to the pacific ocean.  Jalama Beach is also known for their world famous burgers.  We spent a while there and found the staff and park rangers the friendliest you'll ever find.

I want to thank everyone for your extraordinary efforts to help in time of need....and you know who you are.  You helped make this ride a success.  It was a pleasure being with everyone.
I want to thank all the riders that went on this ride that not only supported Jeff in his first time at leading our Club ride but also for helping each other when help was needed.  Roy

June Ride
Wrightwood
By Roy Hooper

The weather was perfect for this ride as we went from sea level to 6,000 feet in the San Gabriel Mountains.  Temps got into the high 80s but nothing that we couldn't handle.  Jon from the Point Mugu Base brought along fellow employees again, Eugene and Darren originally from Florida, so they got to see some great roads and locations.  And Mark showed up again on his Victory Vision as did Paco on his BMW.  Bill Muneio rode out from Santa Barbara and Carla and Joe Solis finished up the group.
Once we hopped off the 210 freeway we cruised on a lot of twisty backroads (with nice views) that eventually got us to Wrightwood.  We stopped there for lunch where we ate a mixture of healthy and delicious fried foods.
After we headed down the hill we stopped at the Acton Shambala Animal Preserve to check out the big lions and tigers.  Then homeward we went.

Amboy on Rt. 66
If you plan on traveling on highway 40 soon you might want to take the original road, Rt. 66, and stop in the small town of Amboy.  New owner Albert Okura is in the process of rebuilding the town back to its 50's look and feel so he needs your business to help him succeed.

The Hand Wave
By Roy Hooper
You undoubtedly have run across wide-eyed kids as you ride with our Club or by yourself.  It's important that we acknowledge these kids with a friendly wave rather then a burst of loud exhaust. Some of these kids, be they boy or girl, can be persuaded by our actions when they see us so we don't want to scare them off. A friendly wave is inviting and if you can, chat with them and answer their questions. Who knows, 15 years from they could be riding along side of you!
