From the Rider’s Seat
By Roy Hooper
Do LOUD pipes bother you?  A nice thing happened on our February ride as we road through Guadalupe.  A man approached us and said he was very happy that a large group like ours can ride through town and not cause a disturbance and upset people.  Loud pipes do give us a bad name so what this man told us was nice to hear.

May 2 is our very important Ride 4 Kids  Brain Tumor Fundraiser as we ride to the Honda HQs in Torrance.  The whole day is full of excitement which includes a police escorted ride through the beach towns. The minimum donation is $35 but the more you donate the better the premiums are.
You an view the premiums here.

In the works is our 3 day ride May 22, 23, 24 that will cover a good part of historic 49 along the Sierras.  If you plan on going please book your rooms as soon as you can.  All the info is on our Ride Calendar page.

Check our Ride Calendar so you can plan out your weekends.

January Ride
Black Canyon
By  Roy Hooper
We had a good turnout for our first ride in 2010 and with temps in the low 80s it was like a summer day.  First time riders were Gabriel Foster-Hayabusa and new Members John Adams- Interceptor and John Parrish- VTX1300.
And regulars coming back to ride with us were Joe and Mariam Solis, Gary Leventhal, Bill Muneio, Rick Bell, Carla, John Muller and Bill Cobb.
After the pre-ride talk we mounted our bikes and did a clockwise ride of our county without getting on freeways. We rode the farm roads in northern Somis which is still beautiful since the county has not ruined it yet with tract homes and shopping strips, so enjoy this section while you can.  View our route. We took our first break at Simi Shell and then we headed up Black Canyon which can be tricky and intimidating but it will make you a better rider.  Then from Chatsworth we took side roads to get to TO and then to Santa Rosa Valley where I had planned a vista view stop but Carla invited us to take a break at her house where we could meet her watchdog Annabelle and enjoy the view. After she passed out refreshments we hopped back on our reliable Japanese and German bikes and made our way to Smokey's BBQ at Seabridge, Oxnard.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the new restaurant and food so with full tummies we decided to explore Seabridge which is a gated bayside community but pedestrians are welcomed. There were a few "open houses" and Carla talked us into checking them out and we all enjoyed it.  After an hour of more sightseeing we said our good byes and departed.
Rick Bell said he and his family were here before and they rented an electric boat.  So there is lots to do at the new Seabridge.
The next time we do this ride we will take Box Canyon instead of the twistie and steep Black Canyon.

February Ride
Avila Beach
By Roy Hooper

Another great turnout on Valentine's day with summer like weather.  We had 13 bikes and  five of those were 2 up for a total of 18 riders.  Bill Muneio led us on a clockwise ride through Santa Barbara County that had us taking nice back roads through place like Vandenberg, Guadalupe, Pismo and Santa Ynez Valley. While going through Guadalupe a man approached us and said he was very pleased that with so many bikes we barely made any noise.  Loud pipes do give us a bad image so I want to thank our riders today for having pipes that are not loud.
At Fat Cats Cafe the club bought appetizers for the group, which included Diablo Canyon Nuclear Plant-sized onion rings.  This is our fourth time to Fat Cats with a large group and all the employees have always taken care of us as far as I know and I thanked our waitress before we left.
In the Avila Bay parking lot I handed out Cal Coast Motorsports gifts for our Members that make our rides. We will be doing this all year until all our active Members receive a gift.  So please continue to show up for rides and support our Club.
Gift recipients on Sunday were Darcy, Mike Hoover, Jeff Rotter, Germaine, Richard Gomes, John Adams, Bill Muneio, and Jeff Lardner.
On the way home we took Tepusquet Canyon southbound and I made a quick check of the Tepusquet Bridge and it  should be completed by the time we do the Tim Bate's Memorial Ride.  Wayne Adams, a first time rider, mentioned there is a plaque on Foxen Canyon that mentions a clever surprise attack on Santa Barbara as they took the back way.  I've been on Foxen many times and stopped this time to read the plaque.
Here is the route we took.
