From the Rider's Seat
By Roy Hooper
I want to start of this issue by thanking our Members for the cool gifts you gave me!  Carla and Jeff Roe presented me with  the book "Everything You Need To Know- Street bikes" written by and signed by Bill Stermer and then just 1 month later you super Members collected $440 so I could put it towards the $699 Corbin Smuggler for my FJR.  SO A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL YOU MEMBERS THAT WERE ABLE TO DO THIS.  I enjoy being President of the Club and these 2 gifts mean a lot to me.

2 WAY RADIOS
We have purchased 2 way radios for our rides!
Now our leader and sweeper are able to communicate during the rides.  We use GMRS channel 15 and you are encouraged to listen to us during the ride.  View our RADIO page for more info.

FREE LUNCH.
For our Members, here is your chance to win a FREE lunch on any Club ride you attend by being the first with the correct answer to this question- What was the first mass-produced motorcycle with a disc brake?
If you think you know the answer leave it on my home phone and I will post your name here- 646-2905.

Product Review- GPS
By Roy Hooper
Earlier this year I did a write up on GPS use on our motorcycles and with Christmas coming up this would make a great and useful present.  At first I didn't think that I "needed" a GPS but after using it for 5 months I can tell you that it is a very valuable tool on long trips as well as local use.  Going to a place for the first time?  Just put in the address and she will direct you there. YOU CANNOT GET LOST.  You will also see icons for gas stations, coffee shops and more.  If you think you might ride in the rain then you probably will want to look at the waterproof units. The best prices I have found where at Fry's and the internet.

Battletrax 2006
In September Dave Culton, Joe Bartlett, Jeff Rotter and I headed to BMW of Long Beach for the Battletrax.  The BT is not a racing event, it is on a course laid out in a huge parking lot and it is won by having a consistent time each time you do a lap.  You get better by learning how to control your bike through tight turns and the sweepers.  There were girl riders too and they did very well. Trophies were given out to the top ten finishers and 2 of our Members received trophies- Joe Bartlett and Jeff Rotter.
BMW had ten motorcycles there for demos and the 4 of us had a blast riding them around town.

Members Jeff Rotter and Joe Bartlett won trophies
at Battletrax 2006 in Long Beach.

Mt. Pinos
I had this September ride all planned out- we would take 33 to 166 and go the back way to Pine Mntn. Club.  Well, 33 was closed from Lockwood Valley Rd. to 166 do to underroad slippage so we had to take Lockwood Valley Rd. to and from Pine Mntn. Club.  I had also planned that once we get to Mt. Pinos we could look out over the south part of the mountain and see the awesome view.  Well, the month long Labor Day fire started earlier that month and now the smoke was covering all of Lockwood Valley so there went the view!  But as you can see by the photo below we still managed to have a good time.  At Mt. Pinos Carla presented me with $440 that a lot of our Members chipped in so that I can buy the Corbin Smuggler.  Thank you very much!!

Devil's Punch Bowl

Vice President Rick Bell led our October ride to the Devil's Punch Bowl in the mountains south of Palmdale.  We first stopped at Charlie Brown's Farm in Pearblossom where we all picked out our delicious lunches.  Then off we went on deserted roads towards the Punch Bowl where we enjoyed our lunches in peace since we were so far away from civilization.
Rick then led us down the mountain and over to the Sierra Highway.  We stopped at an animal compound that had some large and beautiful animals for us to observe.  Then we went to Cal Coast Motorsports to give them the Ride For Kids plaque that they earned when together we raised $10,400.
