In the last couple of months I haven't received any articles for the newsletter so we have gone from monthly issues to bi-monthly issues.  If you have a MC related story/article please send it to .

OPEN HOUSE
I would like to thank the following Members for helping Cal Coast Motorsports and for helping me run our Club booth during their Open House-  Jeff Rotter, Tracy, Jeff Roe, Lou Vanderveen, Rick Bell, France, John Duffant, Joe & Mariam Solis, Carla, Tim Bates and Eric.
Jeff Rotter brought a VCR player which showed customers what we did on our rides, John Duffant put his bike on the  dyno which showed his FJR has 120 horses at the rear wheel and Joe Solis bought a 2006 Yamaha Kenny Roberts Edition R1.

MEMBER RENEWALS COMING UP
October is the time to renew your annual $12 membership.
You can renew early if that works better for you.
If you joined BEFORE 2006 then you will need to renew.
If you don't remember when you joined just go to your member page and under your photo it will state "Member since..."
For renewal instructions visit the Join  page. You don't need to fill out the app again but if your address has changed please let me know. You will have to renew if you still want to get the 15% discount at Cal Coast Motorsports and be able to take part in events geared for members only.  Email me if you have any questions.

FREE LUNCH.
For our Members, here is your chance to win a FREE lunch on the next Club ride you attend by being the first with the correct answer to this question- Why do I carry a turkey baster in my side bag.

If you think you know the answer leave it on my home phone and I will post your name here- 646-2905.
UPDATED ON AUGUST 27-
Jeff Roe came up with the answer- In case someone ran out of gas, we would use the baster to transfer enough gas to reach a gas station.  It beats using a messy siphon hose.

REAGAN LIBRARY
Lou suggested stopping at the Reagan Library in Simi during one of our 2007 rides.   Admission is $12 and if we get at least 5 riders that want to do this ride then we will put it on for March 2006.  Email me asap if you want to do this ride.

NEED MC TIRES?
This is not an ad for Cal Coast Motorsports but it is well known now throughout CALIFORNIA that they have the best prices on tires.  Craig mentioned to me that they are sold at cost and if you bring in the wheel they will mount it for free. No need to spend your valuable time to "shop around" for a better deal, Cal Coast Motorsports is THE place to buy your next set of tires.  Members Lou rides up from LA for their tires and Carla, who is very independent, takes off the wheels on her FJR in her garage, puts them in her truck, drives to Cal Coast Motorsports and they take care of it from there. All she pays for is the cost of the new tires!  You just can't beat it.

WATCH FOR THE LEFT TURNERS

During a 10 day span in July in Ojai Valley there were 4 accidents caused by cars making a left turn when it wasn't safe to do so. The good news is that no MCs were involved.  The bad news is that no MCs were involved.  These drivers simply were NOT PAYING ATTENTION and if they don't notice a big car approaching them they definitely don't see us!
Remember what they taught us in the Advanced Safety Course- Reduce your speed by applying the brakes and this will give you more space and time in case you have to make an evasive maneuver. Applying the brakes will also signal to the vehicles behind you that you are slowing down  By the way, as you ride on 33 between Casitas Springs and Miramonte you will notice the huge oil spots where these accidents occurred.

DECEMBER PARTY
Right after the Ventura County 5th Annual Toy Run in December we plan on having our December/Christmas Party. Two years ago Jerry and Mieko Purdy were great hosts when we had it at their home.  This year we want to do at a buffet type restaurant and the Club can pay up to $10 for our active Members.  Does anyone have any suggestions?  We will also have a gift exchange for those that would like to participate. Just bring a gift that is $10 or less.

I'm marketing cool vests- $39.95 msrp.  and to our club for $30.00.  This includes the tax and a portion of the sales will go to the Ride for Kids programs. I will even ship the vest locally for only $3.00 shipping and handling.

July and August Rides
By Roy Hooper
Our July ride to the Santa Paula Oil Museum had 26 riders show up, that's our biggest showing to date.  The Club paid for the museum admission for our members to show them our appreciation.  Thanks to Joe & Mariam Solis and others who worked out the details so our large group could have a delicious lunch at Santa Paula's El Pascador where they served extra large portions..

Carla suggested going to the Camarillo Car Show and then to the  Cold Spring Taverns for lunch as our August ride.

Joy of Motorcycling
By Rick Davis
Hello!

My name is Rick Davis, Public Relations Manager for Joy of Motorcycling. The purpose of this letter is to introduce myself and the organization I represent, and to let you know what community services we have to offer. Our school headquarters is based in San Diego, California, and we serve not only all of California, but the greater Western United States as well.

I am currently contacting Motorcycling Clubs such as yours in hopes we can set up a web link with our two originations. Please visit our web site.

In case you are unfamiliar with our organization, Joy of Motorcycling’s mission is to inspire and promote not just motorcycle safety and awareness, but also to provide essential knowledge not taught by traditional motorcycle safety schools or traditional traffic violator schools. We fulfill our mission by providing motorcyclists with a unique set of highly informative instructor-led Knowledge Courses, and tailored discussion-based Riders’ Workshops. We are also the only school in the United States with a licensed Traffic Violator School for Motorcyclists. In addition to our specialized courses and workshops, we also provide a variety of community services, including: Guest Speakers, Bike Pick-Up Demonstrations, and event Exhibit Booths. All of our instructors and speakers are highly skilled and have years of riding, speaking, and instructing experience, not to mention a true passion for riding! Please check out our website: www.joyofmotorcycling.com for additional details.

During the past couple of years, we have responded to requests to speak at several major motorcycle events throughout California and Nevada, including: LA Harley-Davidson Women Riders' Expo, Los Angeles, CA; HOG Road Kill Rodeo/American Heart Ride, San Marcos, CA; Quick Throttle Expo, Orange County ,CA; Real Women Ride Expo, Sacramento, CA; and, Ladies at Laughlin River Run, Laughlin, NV. We have also responded to numerous requests to speak at club and organization meetings and charity events.

If your would like Joy of Motorcycling to attend a monthly meeting and/or your group’s motorcycling event, please do not hesitate to contact me for additional information. We would greatly appreciate the opportunity to work with you and to speak to your group and/or provide services for your event.

I look forward to hearing from you and being of service.

Ride to Ride Again!

Sincerely,

Rick Davis, Public Relations Manager
