On our SB Zoo ride our Member Jeff Lardner showed up on a brand new silver 2007 BMW R1200RT. He had a tankbag for his FJR and gave me the tankbag as a gift.

Any writers out there?

Stuck at Stoplights?
Jerry Purdy sent us this page that shows where the sensors are in
the road for making the lights change and recommends where to
place your bike for getting the best chance to make them work. There is a stubborn light on my way home from work that always gave me problems but after reading this article and then positioning my MC correctly I have triggered the light EVERYTIME.  Thanks Jerry.

In the 70s for a very short time there was a California freeway called the Richard Nixon Freeway but then it was renamed because of Watergate.  What is the freeway now called?

July Ride
Pacific Grove 2 Niter
By Roy Hooper
Members George and Kitty Robinson, John and June Muller,
Norm, Jeff Roe, Carla and I left Saturday morning for the Feast of the Lanterns in Pacific Grove (next to Monterey).  The Feast of Lanterns is a weekend of  remembering the Chinese that occupied the beach in Pacific Grove in the early 1900s before the white man ran them out of town.

We headed to Paso Robles for our first fuel stop since all the bikes going had gas tanks larger than 6 gallons.  After that stop we headed west on a variety of roads to get to the Mission San Antonio in Ft Hunter Liggett where we explored for an hour.

Back on the road, we continued west to get to PCH just south of Lucia.  On PCH we headed north to reach the Big Sur River Inn  to take our lunch along the Big Sur River.

Arriving there at the same time was Marti who lived in Ventura for a while and through our Member Jeff Rotter, we made plans to have her join us for this trip.  With our tummies now full we proceeded on PCH to get to our base for the weekend, Lover's Point Inn in Pacific Grove.  That night we watched the events which were right outside our motel.
On Sunday we all mounted our bikes to Santa Cruz where we took route 9 which is a great twisty road surrounded but TREES!
We stopped in a cool little town called Ben Lemond where we found a nice locally owned coffee cafe.  The girl working there had a nice German accent and there was a huge Redwood tree inside that went right through the roof.
Good for another round of riding, we got back on 9 and turned left on 35 to get to the famous Alice's Restaurant in Redwood City.
After lunch we followed Marti on Highway 84 west to PCH where she led us to her house in the Rancho del Oso-Waddell Beach area.  After 2 hours she had to kick us out because none of us wanted to leave this excellent setting!

That night we had dinner in Pacific Grove and the next morning most of us headed home along highway 25.  We got to meet Marti, got to know George and Kitty better and took some great roads with pretty decent weather.  Thanks to Marti for her hospitality and for her photos.

August Ride
Santa Barbara Zoo
By Roy Hooper
The weather was PERFECT this morning as we left our meeting point and took the back roads to Santa Paula so we could ride highway 150 from beginning to the end.  Our first planned stop was in Monticeto but as we arrived in Ojai the weather was pretty warm which called for us to take a stop at the local Chevron.  From there we continued on 150 to the Santa Barbara back roads, through the Hope Ranch neighborhood, along the beach and then to the zoo.  Thanks to Jeff Lardner and his new BMW for being our sweeper.
