From the Rider’s
Seat By Roy Hooper
By the nice turnouts we have for our rides and the comments I have
received it seems that most of you are happy with our Club.
I have a rule of listening to our Members so let me know what you like
about our Club and things that we could improve on. Let me know
in person or through an email.
At our lunches at Sal's in Oxnard and at Bocalli's in Ojai our Members
decided to show their appreciation to me for running the Club by
chipping in one dollar each which paid for my both of my lunches. To
that I say a big THANK YOU! This means a lot to me and 2 free
lunches is plenty. Thanks again.
Got any places you think would be ideal for a Club ride? Send me
your ideas of where you want to go and the place you suggest for lunch
and a route. If you don't have a route then I can work with you
to be sure we don't miss any nice roads.
Please check out our Ride Calendar and help me fill the remaining 5 months of 2009.
We have an opening for the Ride Captain position. The Ride
Captain sets up routes and places to visit for our monthly rides,
assigns a sweeper for each ride and makes sure the rides go smoothly.
I use
Microsoft Streets & Trips 2007 to create routes and will teach the
new Ride Captain how to use it. You can also use another program
if you choose to. This is an important position and I know we
have some Members that would make a very good Ride Captain. Right
now in addition to running the Club I also do the web site, the
newsletters and schedule the monthly rides so having a Ride Captain
would help me greatly.
On Friday night August 22 our Member Tim Bates died of a heart attack
in his Carpenteria home. Tim was a long time Member and was also
involved with the FJR club. Please visit TwoWheelNut.com for his memorial. CCR Back to top
We are always looking for
volunteers to write about our rides.
No experience necessary.
Group Riding Video
I have run across a video by MSF that demos how to group ride. I
would love everyone to view this so we can all be on the same page and
it will explain why I do certain things on the rides. View video here.
July Ride Pine Mntn. Club
By Roy Hooper
Our July ride had us going to the Pine Mntn. Club in Kern County with about 6 members of the Blue Knights joining us.
The weather up there was great but this stubborn rain cell just stopped
on Lockwood Valley Road daring us to cross its path on the way home.
We talked about our options and the majority said let's take I-5
home. Well there was its brother cell waiting for us too and it
just dumped on us as we rode south on the 5.
Even though some riders never rode in the rain before, they made it unscathed and more experienced! Good job.

Amboy on Rt. 66
If you plan on traveling on highway 40 soon you might want to take the
original road, Rt. 66, and stop in the small town of Amboy.
New owner Albert Okura is in the process of rebuilding the
town back to its 50's look and feel so he needs your business to help
him succeed.

August Ride Murphy Museum
By Roy Hooper
The August ride was suppose to take us to the new Murphy Museum in
Oxnard but we had lots of riders again and time became an issue.
So instead of trying to rush things we opted to let everyone
enjoy each others company and just reschedule the Museum for 2009.
We had a great lunch at Sal's in Oxnard and we were served by
SuperWaitress. This ride also had 4 gals riding their own bikes-
Teresa, Alison, Carla and Suzana.
