From
the Rider's Seat
By Roy Hooper
Our Club went on a lot of rides in November and December. For November
we stopped in Castaic to watch the Love Ride riders and their gorgeous
machines as they made their way to the Lake. Rick Bell continued to
lead us to Harley's Rock Inn for a great lunch and then off we went to
Vasquez Rocks. The awesome rock formation can be seen from the 14
freeway and has been developing over the last million years as
this sits on top of the San Andreas Fault. Most of our members climbed
these rocks and the photos are in our gallery. In December one of our
rides was the annual Ventura County Toy Run put on by our fellow
bikers, Bikers for Christ. This day is "all about the Kids" and we
always have fun doing it. Our member Lou from the LAX area rode with
us too. After the presents were handed out we went to Rusty's Pizza
for lunch which was paid for by the club and we came up with ride
destinations for 2006. Thanks to all of you for your input and ideas
for 2006 rides! Check our Ride and Events section on our site so you
can plan your rides with us.
INTERSECTIONS
The number one cause of MC accidents is cars turning
left in front of them. Drivers aren't paying attention to driving like
they should so we have to adjust to that. Drivers will see our
headlight but it doesn't "register" with them so they press the gas
pedal and make their turn. The first thing to do when you see someone
planning a turn is to REDUCE YOUR SPEED so you will have more time to
make an evasive move. Next step is to move from one side of the lane
to the other- sometimes just this movement of the headlight wakes up
the drivers and then they realize that you are there. As you approach
them have your escape routes planned in case you need them.
Previously I would flash my high beams but that only confuses them
because they think that you are giving them the OK to turn ahead of
you. Remember- REDUCE YOUR SPEED.
Phone WWW Access
Cell phones and wi-fi PDAs, known as "mobile" devices, have access to
web these days and soon I will adjust our site to make it "mobile"
friendly. Currently I have 3 FLASH movies on our site and these are
not viewable on mobiles so I will do some tinkering and replace them
with animated GIFs. One use of mobiles is that you can check our site
to see if you are showing up on the right day if you are at our meeting
place and no one has shown up. Believe me, it happens. I went to
Fry's in Oxnard and spent $30 for a wi-fi router and my home is now
wireless. I have the Palm TX wi-fi PDA and I can access the web
anywhere in my house and both yards with the push of just one button.
It is very convenient and Fry's has some killer sales.

Widder Heated Gloves
By Roy Hooper
In recent newsletters I talked about how valuable my Widder heated vest
and arm chaps are in temperatures below 50 degrees. I have recently
completed my heated apparel with the purchase of Widder's
Lectric-gloves for $89.
The Lectric-gloves do the job very well and I have found that I only
need to plug them in when temps get below 45 degrees. I have owned
bulky winter gloves for about 3 years and was not happy with them at
all since they were bulky and didn't do a good job of keeping my hands
warm. Plus I paid $70 for them. The Lectric-gloves are NOT bulky so I
have use of my fingers still and they keep my hands from getting cold.
They are definitely worth the $89.
The forefingers on each glove have a suede visor wipe and there is
reflective tubing. The gloves are sized large, so if you wear a large,
a medium should fit fine. Widder is located in Ojai so you can try
them on there. The heated clothing, be it from Widder.com or someone
else, makes a great gift and you can always exchange them for the right
size. Heated clothing is not inexpensive but it is something that will
last you a long time and is well worth the money you spent on it.

Thank You Diane
By Roy Hooper
Our Treasurer Diane has decided to break away from MCs for a while and
her Suzuki has found a new home in Van Nuys. I met Diane 3 years
ago
in Ojai and we have become good friends. When Cal Coast
Motorsports
owner Craig Adams asked me to start the Cal Coast Riders Club, Diane
was the first person I asked to help me out. It is a big task starting
a Club and I needed someone like Diane to help me, and she did just
that. She was not only our Treasurer but someone who came up with
ideas and suggestions to make our Club better. I let her know that she
is always welcome to join us for our Club lunch.
A big THANKS Diane!****
From Diane-
I want to let all the CCR Members know that I sold
my Intruder because of
the problems it was giving me; and I've decided not to get another bike for
personal reasons.
Although I won't be seeing you on the rides anymore, I do have very fond
memories with all of you and all the fun rides we've been on. I'm glad I got to
know all of you and with such a high quality group of folks, I'm sure the club
will keep on going strong. Stay in touch.
Ride safe and have fun,
Diane

The 2005 Love Ride
By Jeff Rotter
November 13th 2005 Love ride was one
of my best experiences I have ever done and plan to do this ride again.
I will post their web site and you can read about this year 22nd
year and see what went on this year. loveride.com
I was turned on to this
ride by some HD rider friends of mine that had done this ride for the
last 3 years and were up on how it works. They had done the bad things
their first year and got it figured out, so for the next year they got
it down with less confusion so this year being my first it was a
breeze, my trip started out log on line and pre register, and pay your
donation. The Saturday prior to Sunday event show up get your tickets
and enjoy the Glendale HD shop and booths… Oh while at Glendale HD buy
a preferred parking pass 10.00 get you in the first group to go Trust
me on this your ride will be less stress full at start up and at
Castaic.
I also purchased a 10.00 ticket to BB kings
club Saturday night. After I left HD on Saturday we had gotten a room 2
miles away- get room soon- they book all over town. That
night we took taxi into Universal Walk $30.00 for 4 people.
We had drinks then went to BB king club saw a
great show sponsored the love ride.
Trip back to Glendale for 4 30.00 … Best thing
of all NO DUI,
Now here's where it gets exciting: the next
morning you get up about 4.30 /530 am to go get in line first come
first to go I heard bike getting in line early as 3:00 am. “No thanks”. I got there about 7:30 ish got in line I was about
1000 bikes back and on far right side. There was already in progress a
nice band on stage playing in front of Glendale HD. After the mini
concert Jay Leno comes out does his thing introducing celebrities
involve. Now about 9:00 am we start engines and it was the loudest
rumble of 60 K bikes and 99.8 % of them where HD. And all where very
friendly people. Now here's where you need to go slow to avoid
confusion 6 lanes go to 2 and the single file on to freeway took about
15 minutes for me once on freeway it was like anyone of are club rides
form up with friend now remember get going ASAP there are 60K bike
coming up on your rear we no problem was not much traffic be in front
group got up to Castaic where another long slow line on bike pour into
parking lot expect to get clutch cramps going in. But once in, they're
where just tons of booths and displays of all kinds of bikes and
customs and cars, got great bike show parachutes and great BBQ lunch.
Lot of serving lines and being one of the first to arrive we went and
got lunch done No one was in lines went eat on hill over looking Stage
and lake in back ground and saw Jay Leno come out and do his comedy
thing and introduced Jack Mac and the Heart Attacks they played for 2
hours and the BB King cam out and played for a few hour I will say I
did cut out during BB King I have seen him before. During they day I
did see for 4 straight hours none stop bike pulling in I would have
hate being in the middle of all that traffic 10.00 parking wasn't a bad
idea. So we cut out to beat traffic, we got out about 3:00pm got a nice
hassle free trip home to Ventura on the 126… I will say all bikes must
do this ride at least once, with 60K bike my time was really a hassle
free day.
Ride safe.
