From
the Rider's Seat
By Roy Hooper
We had an interesting ride to Jalama Beach in August and many of us
won't visit that place for a long time unless they change the GRUMPY
resident ranger. We go there for a good time, not to be lectured
by some burnt out ranger 3 times in a row. Our Teen Challenge Ride was
a lot better, maybe this grumpy ranger can learn something from these
teens. We will definitely be back next year for the Teen
Challenge though.
Check out our Ride Calendar below for some great rides planned for the
reminder of the year and send me your suggestions for rides and places
to eat in 2006. Diane has a good time planned for our 2 day trip
to Monterey.
Our December ride is the same day as the Love Ride, if you want to
start with me in Glendale for the Love Ride let me know, it is
something that you must try at least once. 22,000 bikes starting
at once is a trip! We will meet up with our club in Castaic to
finish or club ride.
Ride Safe.

Torco
Silicon Spray
By Joe Solis '03 FJR-1300
Keep Your Bike Looking Good as New.
A while
back, I was at Cal Coast getting my FJR serviced. While I was
waiting, I picked up a can of Torco Silicon spray for around $6. For
those of you who rode back in the Sixties and Seventies, you'll
remember that virtually everyone who
rode a two-stroke in those days
had a few cans of Torco Two-stroke oil around to mix in the gas.
Anyway,
this spray is the stuff the dealer setup guys use to get that new bike
shine.
It is real easy to use. Just spray it on a small area,
like the gas tank and rub it down with a soft cotton cloth; old
tee-shirts and your worn-out 'Friut-of-the-Looms' work great. It works
very well on those black plastic parts like the FJR side case halves
and the inner faring pieces and can temporarily clean up the small
scratches on the clear windshields.
I used it on my FJR for the Fess Parker Winery Ride and got quite a few
compliments on how well my 'Older' FJR looked.

Teen
Challenge Ride
By Roy Hooper
In August we attended the Teen Challenge Ride in the
Casitas Springs/Ventura area. The TC program is similar to the
Brat Camp that aired recently on TV. The TC girls just completed
their "challenge" and today was a celebration of that accomplishment
and to raise some funds for the future girls of TC.
Joining me on the ride were Jeff Roe,
Dave Coulton, Joe Bartlett and Jed
Harris. During the registration we met Leah of Oxnard and her red CBR600
and she rode with us during the rally. There were many Harleys
and custom bikes on hand and it was nice to see the detailed work on
the custom bikes.
At 9 about 100 bikes headed off for the ride which took us along Lake
Casitas, Santa Claus Lane, Santa Paula, Ojai and back to the TC picnic
area where we enjoyed a variety of meats while their own teens formed a
band called "forgotten english" which consisted of 4 girls and 2
guys. They played Christian rock and were very good. I
personally thought that the girls playing lead guitar and keyboard have
a future in music. Keep it up.
As we rode on 192 we came across a bike race which crowded the
highway. This was a good time for us to test our skills of when
to safely pass these bikes with oncoming traffic and the normal farm
work in the area. I took the Advanced MSF many times and a lot of
what they teach us came in handy on this stretch of 192.
The TC Fundraiser Ride is a worthy cause and we will do this again next
year. Photos of this ride can be viewed below.
