August News

Hi  All!  Jeff  here with the CCR August newsletter.  The winds of change have blown over CCR.  Our longtime leader, Roy Hooper, is retiring from  his duties here at CCR. Roy has been leading us for the past 11 years. He has surely deserves a well earned rest! Roy, I'm sure I speak for all of us CCR members...past and present...in saying  THANK YOU  for  giving us CCR, and for everything you have done to make  this a safe, fun, well run outfit! You will be missed!

 CCR NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT

I am gradually turning over our club to other members to run so I can take a nice long mental break after 11 fun years.
Thanks to those in the past that have helped me and to the ones that are taking charge now so please support them
as you did me. Ron Dumont is helping with the routes and Jeff Goldstein has started taking over the web site.
Here are some group riding tips that I have used with our club and if you could take a few minutes to read it you will
have a better understanding of the rides and it will help our rides go smoother.

Thanks, Roy

August 2014 ride

Last week was the first club ride of the post Roy era.  A group of about 16 of us....Led by Ron Dumont... did a very nice and twisty route to Lake Arrowhead!  The Location was picked by Kim Mancino...Nice choice Kim!...and  the routing was done by Ron Dumont!  Ron did a  great  job leading his first route. Leading is not an easy job! Thanks for leading us Ron!!!!  We had perfect weather, uncrowded roads. and a nice ride up to Arrowhead!  When we arrived at Arrowhead  we had a choice of many restaurants to choose from  for our lunch stop.  The group split up... A few of us ate at the California Thai kitchen.  It was pretty good!   After lunch we did the 2nd half of the route and headed down the mountain towards the 210...and back towards  home.

We had a very nice day! Thank you to all the riders who made it out today!  See  you on the September ride!

Keep the rubber side down!
Jeff

September Preview

September 21-
We will meet at Ojai Full of Beans at 8 and depart at 9 so let me know if you want me to bring donuts, pastries or cookies.  Will be riding to Ventura Harley Davidson 1326 Del Norte Road, Camarillo at 11:00 and cheer on the women riders as they do their Heels and Wheels Ride to raise money for The Breast Center at CMH.  In 2013 these women raised $7,000.  You don't have to give money, we are mainly here to cheer on the women as they take off.   After the ladies depart we will continue on our ride and have lunch.
We will then head towards Casitas Vista Rd. to ride along Lake Casitas, over to the Rincon to our final stop at Wienerschnitzel where the club will treat to dessert.

This ride is only 100 miles, it is on local roads and will be a relaxed pace so just kick back and enjoy.

Cal Coast Motorsports owner Craig Adams said that "we will match any online prices on equal terms
on current merchandise.  Simply print out the offer or bring it in on your phone.
We ask that everyone keep their business local and support the Cal Coast as we support them."
I have mentioned many times before how important it is to support Cal Coast Motorsports because
you will keep your money local, keep local employees employed and have Cal Coast Motorsports
here when you need them.  So this personal message from Craig should answer any questions you
have about price matching.

Next time you are in Cal Coast you might want to check out their CLEARANCE section which is at the
end of the chemical aisle.  There is a clothing rack and also some helmets against the wall.  They have some
good deals there.

 CLUB SHIRTS

Our order of shirts came in last week and we still have some XLs left.  If you want one just go to our shirt page for the info.

 AN AFFORDABLE GPS
During our 49 ride we found out that Richard Gomes had a non-Zumo Garmin GPS that he downloaded our 3 day routes to and it was less than $200.  So if you are looking for an alternative to the $600 + Zumos you might want to get the Garmin nuvi 755T (765T has Bluetooth).  You can make your own routes using Mapsource and download it to the nuvi.  You can also download our routes to it so you can see where we are going as your ride with us.  It is has the speed limit signs for most roads so you will know what the speed limit is and why I am doing the speed that I am doing. You can use this in any car as well. Click here for the nuvi 755T and here is the cradle to mount on your bike.  If you run across a better price on the nuvi please let me know so I can pass it on.  These items will not be around forever so don't hesitate.
Check out our Zumo page that has some routes made by Cal Coast Riders.
Update 2014- Ron and Kim also have this GPS now.

 MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
Looking for the best price on MC gear?  Get it at Cal Coast Motorsports!
Owner Craig Adams wants you to know "
our everyday pricing on Shoei helmets is
better than most online sites.  Also, we will match any online prices on equal terms
on current merchandise.  Simply print out the offer or bring it in on your phone.
We ask that everyone keep their business local and support the Cal Coast as we support them."

Did you know that some of our members have their own web site?
Just go to our main page, navigate to the left column and look under "Members' Sites".

 TOWING OPTIONS
Hopefully you will never need to call a tow truck for your bike but if you do we have some
options to add to your cell phone. The following info can always be found on our Towing page.
Paul's Cycle Rescue  in Ventura County.  Paul has a trailer made for MCs and he knows what he's doing.

A member suggested that if you break down far from home it might be cheaper to rent a u-haul truck
with a trailer and tow your bike to wherever you need to go instead of paying a towing company their
per mile rate.  I think this is a great suggestion and I hope I remember this if I am ever in that situation.
