 CCR NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT

In one of the motorcycle magazines I subscribe to a reader wrote in and asked if anyone parked their bike with the transmission in first gear to keep it from rolling.  He makes a good point.  Bikes can slowly creep of the sidestand on even a slight decline and I am now trying to make a habit of leaving it in gear.  Do any of our members park in gear?

On our February ride I will bring muffins from Vons instead of donuts and I will also have some stickers for your motorcycle and car that spread the word that lane splitting if done safely is legal in California.  If you pick up some of these stickers please take a photo of it on the vehicle and email the photo to me.  Feel free to pick up some stickers for your friends and I also dropped some off at Cal Coast Motorsports.

And don't forget that we will raffle off two $25 gift cards to Cal Coast Motorsports.  All proceeds go to our club fund so we can have some nice BBQs/Appetizers on sunny days with no charge to our Members.

We had another good turnout for our first ride of the year to BBQ Land in Santa Maria.  They had a big long table set aside for us and had the huge screen TVs on the NFL games.  We took a bunch of twisty roads and when one rider went down in a slow speed curve our sweeper Robert Williams stepped up and took care of what needed to be done.  Later he jumped on the 101 and joined us at BBQ Land.  I didn't think of paying for his lunch that day but I told him later that the next lunch of his choosing I will pay for his lunch.  Thanks again to Robert and all the others who sweep for us.

We have two 3 day rides planned for February and April and if you are thinking of going PLEASE BOOK YOUR ROOM NOW because they will sell out of rooms.  Go to our Ride Calendar page for the motel info.  Thanks again to our Vice President Carla for helping me plan these multi-day rides.

On our Members' page we still only have 3 members without profile photos, please send me a photo of you and your motorcycle so we can complete this page.  Check here to see it we need your photo.

Don't forget to check our Classifieds page.

Cal Coast Motorsports owner Craig Adams said that "we will match any online prices on equal terms
on current merchandise.  Simply print out the offer or bring it in on your phone.
We ask that everyone keep their business local and support the Cal Coast as we support them."
I have mentioned many times before how important it is to support Cal Coast Motorsports because
you will keep your money local, keep local employees employed and have Cal Coast Motorsports
here when you need them.  So this personal message from Craig should answer any questions you
have about price matching.

Next time you are in Cal Coast you might want to check out their CLEARANCE section which is at the end of the chemical aisle.
There is a clothing rack and also some helmets against the wall.  They have some good deals there.

 CLUB SHIRTS
Our order of shirts came in last week and we still have some XLs left.  If you want one just go to our shirt page for the info.

 AN AFFORDABLE GPS
During our 49 ride we found out that Richard Gomes had a non-Zumo Garmin GPS that he downloaded our 3 day routes to and it was less than $200.  So if you are looking for an alternative to the $600 + Zumos you might want to get the Garmin nuvi 755T (765T has Bluetooth).  You can make your own routes using Mapsource and download it to the nuvi.  You can also download our routes to it so you can see where we are going as your ride with us.  It is has the speed limit signs for most roads so you will know what the speed limit is and why I am doing the speed that I am doing. You can use this in any car as well. Click here for the nuvi 755T and here is the cradle to mount on your bike.  If you run across a better price on the nuvi please let me know so I can pass it on.  These items will not be around forever so don't hesitate.
Check out our Zumo page that has some routes made by Cal Coast Riders.

Looking for the best price on MC gear?  Get it at Cal Coast Motorsports!
Owner Craig Adams wants you to know "
our everyday pricing on Shoei helmets is
better than most online sites.  Also, we will match any online prices on equal terms
on current merchandise.  Simply print out the offer or bring it in on your phone.
We ask that everyone keep their business local and support the Cal Coast as we support them."

Did you know that some of our members have their own web site?
Just go to our main page, navigate to the left column and look under "Members' Sites".

 TOWING OPTIONS
Hopefully you will never need to call a tow truck for your bike but if you do we have some
options to add to your cell phone. The following info can always be found on our Towing page.
Paul's Cycle Rescue  in Ventura County.  Paul has a trailer made for MCs and he knows what he's doing.

A member suggested that if you break down far from home it might be cheaper to rent a u-haul truck
with a trailer and tow your bike to wherever you need to go instead of paying a towing company their
per mile rate.  I think this is a great suggestion and I hope I remember this if I am ever in that situation.
