 CCR NEWS FROM THE PRESIDENT

Membership renewal comes up every October, renewal is still only $12 and you can pay me
on the next ride or pay online, whatever is easier for you.  You can go to our
Join/Renewal page and see the info there.  To see if you need to renew this year just go to our
Meet our Members and under your main photo is your renewal year.

We have a 3 day ride planned for February 2014 and if you are thinking of going PLEASE BOOK YOUR ROOM NOW because they will sell out of rooms.  Go to our Ride Calendar page for the motel info.

Don't hesitate to use hand signals on our club rides, a great example would be when I as the leader slows down unexpectedly.  I will try to use hand signals but please use the slow down hand signal to alert riders and cars behind you that we are slowing down any maybe stopping.  Groups have been known to rear end each other so let's keep an eye out.

We have been taught to use both brakes when coming to a stop but did you know that at about 3 mph you should release the front brake?  This prevents your forks from diving and you will come to a smoother stop.  On our next ride let's see if there's any fork diving happening.

If you've watched the "group riding" video on our Ride Calendar page you are aware that when we stop at stop signs and stoplights we stop and take off in pairs.  This is to expedite our time at the intersections but if you see one of us take off and it's not safe please tap your horn.

On the September ride we started raffling off Cal Coast Motorsports gift cards.  The raffle tickets
cost $1 each and that goes into our chapter fund.  You can buy as many raffle tickets you want to increase your chances of winning.  This way our club fund will get some income and some of you will win gift cards for Cal Coast Motorsports.
On our September ride the club made $20 and the 2 winners were Larry Meyers and Dave Thacher.  Thanks to those that were able to participate and we will raffle off 2 more $25 gift cards in October.

And don't forget that owner Craig Adams said that "we will match any online prices on equal terms
on current merchandise.  Simply print out the offer or bring it in on your phone.
We ask that everyone keep their business local and support the Cal Coast as we support them."
I have mentioned many times before how important it is to support Cal Coast Motorsports because
you will keep your money local, keep local employees employed and have Cal Coast Motorsports
here when you need them.  So this personal message from Craig should answer any questions you
have about price matching.

Next time you are in Cal Coast you might want to check out their CLEARANCE section which is at the end of the chemical aisle.
There is a clothing rack and also some helmets against the wall.  They have some good deals there.

 OCTOBER RIDE
October 13 -  Lake Isabella/Kernville ride.
Starting point- Fillmore Starbucks 650 W. Ventura Street.  Meet at 8 and depart at 9.
We are going on some nice back roads in Kern County so come along with us.
PLEASE EMAIL ME IF YOU'RE GOING ON THIS RIDE or post it on Facebook.

View route.  Download Zumo route.
If weather becomes an issue check our Ride Calendar page at about 7am on the morning of the ride  to see if the ride is still on.

 CLUB SHIRTS
Our order of shirts came in last week and we still have some XLs left.  If you want one just go to our shirt page for the info.
If you ordered a shirt let me know which ride you will attend next and I can bring your shirt.

 AN AFFORDABLE GPS
During our 49 ride we found out that Richard Gomes had a non-Zumo Garmin GPS that he downloaded our 3 day routes to and it was less than $200.  So if you are looking for an alternative to the $600 + Zumos you might want to get the Garmin nuvi 755T (765T has Bluetooth).  You can make your own routes using Mapsource and download it to the nuvi.  You can also download our routes to it so you can see where we are going as your ride with us.  It is has the speed limit signs for most roads so you will know what the speed limit is and why I am doing the speed that I am doing. You can use this in any car as well. Click here for the nuvi 755T and here is the cradle to mount on your bike.  If you run across a better price on the nuvi please let me know so I can pass it on.  These items will not be around forever so don't hesitate.
Check out our Zumo page that has some routes made by Cal Coast Riders.

 MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS
Looking for the best price on MC gear?  Get it at Cal Coast Motorsports!
Owner Craig Adams wants you to know "
our everyday pricing on Shoei helmets is
better than most online sites.  Also, we will match any online prices on equal terms
on current merchandise.

Did you know that some of our members have their own web site?
Just go to our main page, navigate to the left column and look under "Members' Sites".

 TOWING OPTIONS
Hopefully you will never need to call a tow truck for your bike but if you do we have some
options to add to your cell phone. The following info can always be found on our Towing page.
Paul's Cycle Rescue  in Ventura County.  Paul has a trailer made for MCs and he knows what he's doing.

A member suggested that if you break down far from home it might be cheaper to rent a u-haul truck
with a trailer and tow your bike to wherever you need to go instead of paying a towing company their
per mile rate.  I think this is a great suggestion and I hope I remember this if I am ever in that situation.
